We do... it took me over an hour to get home. Normally it is about 35 or 40 minutes. Unreal. The first snow does something to people, makes them drive look goof balls. Fortunately, most everyone was patient... no ants in the pants. That's even worse! So, Wednesday marks the beginning of December. Trying to get our Christmas shopping done, we are for the most part. There's just a few more folks to shop for. Who wants McDonald's fries? I do, get some for me. I think I'll eat a little something and rock out to my own shredding. Thank you my friend.

Remember the Littlest Packer?
Remember my friend, who it was who touted the Littlest Packer? That's right, you read about him here on this blog. Here is the link. #28, Ahmad Caroll, CB for your Green Bay Packers... remember who was with you before the season even began. Ahmad, tonight may Brett Favre's 200th consecutive start but tonight is your coming out party. You have arrived Mr. Carroll.
Three Minutes until Kick Off
Well, here we are... just minutes away. GO PACK! Beat the Rams. I have my Packer Socks, my Packer Pants, my Packer T-shirt and my Packer Sweathshirt. I think I am ready.

What else to do on Sunday afternoon
While Monday Night Football is exciting, it kind of takes away from the ritual of Sundays. Certainly not going to church, rather the post-church festivities of Sunday afternoon. There is just something about the noon kick off at Lambeau Field and being able to watch it from the warmth of my couch and in my Packer pajamas. Monday night also tends to be a little late, but we'll be there (on the couch that is). GO PACK! Anyway, we are hoping that the Jacksonville Jaguars can hold on and keep it going. Beat those Vikings!
I am sure that we will be wrapping presents and putting some of the finishing touches on aforementioned presents this afternoon. It's fun and here's some good news. I bought three rolls of wrapping paper for a buck a piece today. Can you guess where I am from? I love a good bargain.
I also had nachos with Herdez salsa. Hands down the best salsa that you don't make yourself. If you are a salsa eater, you simply must try this stuff. Please note, this is not a paid endorsement. ;)
See you there on Monday night, my friend.

Page 23, 5th Sentence
This is an idea that I across on Saija's blog earlier today. I think it is intriguing, thank you Saija. http://saija.blogspot.com/2004/11/keep-chain-going.html
What you are supposed to do is find the nearest book to you.
Turn to page 23 in said book.
Find senctence #5 and post to your blog.
Here is my 5th sentence on page 23. "The argument here is that in lieu of conducting a small study that has limited (if any) value to other situation, researchers would benefit from using valid data that have been previously collected." Mass Media Research: An Introduction by Roger D. Wimmer and Joseph R. Dominick, 1987, 1983.

Saturday Night's Alright for Ice Cream...
and for Marty's Pizza and Baby Einstein and Candy Land. As much fun as I had last Saturday night, tonight I had just much fun. Certainly it was different, but still fun. Life just gets different as you get older and truly I enjoy the fun that it is. What I enjoy most is watching my friends grow and learning from that. I want to be involved in that and be a part of it. I am just fortunate that I am able to and that there are people who want me to. I am very lucky to be blessed with so many wonderful friends. I am who am because of you. On the way into our house, it was so cold and windy and dark. I told Dan that I we need to move somewhere warmer. He said quite bluntly that if we did that, then nights like these would be most assuredly less frequent. I dislike what I am already missing, I can't imagine missing more. Why didn't I buy a lottery ticket today?

The Day after Turkey...
So many options with what to do with a day off... we can finish our Christmas shopping, go ice skating, hit a hockey game in Madison. Hopefully, we'll do those things and not spend it all day on the couch. Danny B. is still sleepy-sleepy right now. I'm not progressing any further (shower and dress) until he is wakey-wakey. It's nice for him to be able to sleep late. He gets up very early during the week and is home late three nights a week for class.
I'd like to do some fun stuff over the next three days. The next two weeks will be busy.

Who is the turkey?
While driving to my doctor appointment, I happened across not one, but two turkeys. I knew that it would only be a few hours before I began basting my own bird. These turkeys happened to have the good fortune to be born in the wild, while mine was born in captivity. Certainly, those gobblers will meet their make in due time, as we all will, however it made me wince just a bit.
At any rate, it was decided that I must have a bacterial type of scene happening, so now I have two different types of medication. Great. I love it.
I was also going to make a ham, but I think that might be a bit much, considering we already have a big chicken worth of turkey. We have two pies and a salad to make in the morning, and don't forget the bacon for the salad.
We'll spend the afternoon with G Millie and Rosie and then head to Mom and Fred's for pie.
So what am I thankful for? No doubt about it, my friend. I am thankful for you. I am thankful that I have wonderful friends and family and friends who are like family and family who are like friends.
Let the holiday bring you together with those you love and let your travels be safe, my friend.

Serenity through Friendship
Friendship is what keeps my grounded through all of the craziness of my life. It is what helps me to realize who I truly am. When I am able to spend time with the people that I hold close to my heart I learn all over again what drew me to them in the first place and why they mean so much to me. I am very fortunate that to have very special friends in my life. I can't fathom what my life would be without all of the wonderful gifts my friends have given me with their smiles, laughter, sensitivity, thoughtfulness and devotion. This weekend created more wonderful memories and emotions that I will cherish and hold dear. Thank you my friends.

The Creeping Crud vs. Dan Wick
Well... here we are on Day 8 of the Creeping Crud illness. I actually missed about 1 1/2 of work and went to see the Doctor on account of it. I have been fairly miserable, and because of that so has Dan.
Dan is as always very supportive and comforting. I am very fortunate to have him in my life, for more than making me nachos when that's all I could think about eating and for more than buying me new kleenex.
Final Score: Dan Wick-38 Creeping Crud-Nuthin'

This is My Very Gracious Friend Paul.

This is what I was referring to about my very gracious friend Paul. He knows that I am a frustrated Rocker. We also share a mutual admiration for Van Halen. Paul invited me on stage to sing "Panama" with his band Noise Pollution on Halloween. Thanks to Paul and the guys! Watch Out! Ann and Paul Were Rockin' All Over the Place!

Anticipating passing out
...And no, not because of a former good friend known as Old No. 7 or Mr. Daniel. No friends, I am still not 100%. All day I have felt as though I was getting ready to meet the pavement with my face. My tongue also feels swollen. Really odd... and even weirder, my senses just aren't very sharp. My sensory stuff seems dulled. Friday is only a day away, just like "Tomorrow." Funny, huh? I am trying to fight this off, but I fear I am on the short end of the stick.

A Trip to the Doctor
Well, I went to the Doctor today. Actually, the Physician Assistant. Surprise, I have a viral infection. OTC medicine and rest... right, rest. At any rate, at least I do not have the unenviable task of calling people to cancel their flu shot appointments because I am out of flu shots. There's one you're hopin' for an answering machine for. YIKES! Please, no political comments about flu shots. This is MY blog, so that's the it of it. I'll just have to keep drinking my grape juice... and double the Louisiana hot sauce intake, I swear that really works! Yesterday I stayed home from work and barely got an extra 10 let alone 40 winks. Then last night I was up at about 3:30am or 4:00am... just awake... I just laid there. Then I half watched an episode of M*A*S*H. It was the one where Hawkeye and BJ are told by Potter to be friends with Frank Burns while Major Houlihan is in Tokyo for a nursing seminar. In a drunken stupor, Frank calls one of the nurses a "real hottsie tottsie."

Just when you thought it was safe
Just when you thought it was safe. What would life be if it didn't throw you a few curveballs now and then? Sometimes you happen to be on the mound, throwing them and other times you are behind the plate, acting as a human backstop. You might even be the upmire, trying to make the calls, still you might be the batter taking a pitch to the helmet. I just spoke with someone who I think feels like the batter. He thought he was the umpire, and truly was. I am now more sure of his strength and courage -- and most certainly his heart. I am honored that someone who is so strong and together had he felt he could confide in me. Thank You.

Sunday, then Monday
We spent the afternoon with Millie and Rosie and Jimmy. We met for lunch downtown and then walked around to the shops. Jimmy got himself a fedora... Nice. When Dan and I got home, my suspicions were confirmed. I am sick. Fever, goofy head, congested, the whole nine yards. I wish that Monday didn't come so soon. We'll see how I feel in the morning. We watched the finale of the Surreal Life tonight... FLAVOR FLAV!
Bring on the next Guitar/That Touch of St. Nick
I am ready for the next one, but I will be building it myself. I have to come up with a scheme for it, but I think we'll go for a Les Paul or PRS style on this one. Those body types afford you a bit more room, you know, a bigger canvas. This whole idea today comes from boredom. Most weekends, we are fairly busy. However when I do get the chance to lay low, I get kind of in a funk and I get bored. I guess I like to make the most of my time. We did get some Christmas shopping done. That's always a fun thing to do and and it is a good feeling. It's fun to do things for other people. I am glad that we started now and not when we usually do, sometime about 10 days before Christmas. The drag about that is feeling hurried and the fact that by that time all of the other shoppers and 85% of store employees are not in the holiday spirit. In fact when would think that people are just oozing the holiday spirit, they are decidedly not. That takes some of the fun out of it. Hopefully, we'll have it all done and we won't have to worry about it.

The Unexpected GHS Boomers
While I was at the Delavan Wal-Mart Super Center at 6:45 in the morning today... Something caught my eye... while I was rushing past the "furniture" department, I couldn't help but notice a familiar product. To a guitar player, this is like flashing a picture of Comet Kitchen Cleanser... it was a set of GHS Boomer Guitar Strings. Just hanging there on an "impulse" strip on a metal shelf that had some of those folding chair beds, there it was, a package in red and blue. Naturally, I stopped, picked them up as if they weren't real. Then I checked the price. $3.84. Twenty years ago, these strings were easily $5.00 or $6.00 a set. Sam Walton had me at that moment. It worked. It was a quiet and unassuming display, and he got my $3.84 that I hadn't planned on spending. It's alreight with me, I'll probably buy another few sets... we need them around here. Everybody needs to change their socks... even the acoustic.

The Long Cold Lockout
...And then depression set in... After the Super Bowl, there will be no more intense sports of interest on television for me. Sure I like women's college hoops, but TENNESSEE isn't on nearly enough. Hockey is where my heart is... and going to games at the Bradley Center when I need my fix just isn't practical. Friends, believe me, I would love to go to every home Admirals game. I just don't have the scratch for tickets, gas, parking or the time.
We had great dinner and great company tonight. The former brought to me by Dan and the Chinese Pagoda on North Avenue, the latter provided by Rosie. Thanks to each of you.

$250 and No Regrets or Why I Love Eddie Van Halen
Well Friends... As much as I was against it, I went and had the time of my life. There was no doubt that it wasn't the best show as far as great playing (there wasn't) or great vocals (they weren't). But my friend, the band had fun and so did the crowd. The band was relaxed and truly seemed into the crowd. Eddie (GASP!) talked and Sammy spent all night signing autographs for folks on the endless stream of t-shirts, hats, albums, guitar bodies, license plates, banners, etcetera that fans kept flinging on stage. THANK YOU... unreal, it's been 18 years since I first saw the band and it was the most FUN I have had at a Van Halen show. Trust me, I've had fun at others, but this was hands down it. ROCK ON, MILWAUKEE!

... And boy are my eyes tired
Who thinks that this whole Daylight Saving Time thing is a good idea anyway? Who cares if it light at 5:30 or 6:00 in the morning. Let's have it be light out at 4:37pm. What's wrong with that? I don't get up super early or super late, right in the middle. Let's have sunshine when people are out trying to live their own lives, not when they are on their way to spend eight or ten or twelve or fourteen hours doing something else. Let's have the sun, baby! We only have it for awhile here in the Dairy State anyhow. And that's another thing, WISCONSIN is the Dairy State... don't get any funny ideas about it being any other, Mister.
