The Unexpected GHS Boomers
While I was at the Delavan Wal-Mart Super Center at 6:45 in the morning today... Something caught my eye... while I was rushing past the "furniture" department, I couldn't help but notice a familiar product. To a guitar player, this is like flashing a picture of Comet Kitchen Cleanser... it was a set of GHS Boomer Guitar Strings. Just hanging there on an "impulse" strip on a metal shelf that had some of those folding chair beds, there it was, a package in red and blue. Naturally, I stopped, picked them up as if they weren't real. Then I checked the price. $3.84. Twenty years ago, these strings were easily $5.00 or $6.00 a set. Sam Walton had me at that moment. It worked. It was a quiet and unassuming display, and he got my $3.84 that I hadn't planned on spending. It's alreight with me, I'll probably buy another few sets... we need them around here. Everybody needs to change their socks... even the acoustic.
