Money is the Root of all Evil
That's the kind of thing that you say when money isn't always around when you would like it to be. We say a lot of things to make ourselves feel better about what we do or don't do. What we have or don't have. How about "You're going to die of something anyway," that's what you say when you're doing something that you know isn't good for you, like smoking or eating a lot of doughnuts. How about "Look at the bright side?" That's what you say to someone who hasn't got a shot at being happy at that moment. The bright side? Right. "It could be worse..." that is just another version of the previous. Now I'm not saying that we should all wallow in the mire of our misery. But man, sometimes when you are feeling low, you need to feel it so that you know that you don't want to feel that way again. I know full well that I have it better than 98% of the population on Earth. Everyday I am thankful that I have a family, friends, a job, a roof over my head, that I have plenty to eat and stuff that isn't necessary for survival.
I was just saying to myself as I read about a husband and wife who won the lottery in Oklahoma... "Good for them." I smiled when I saw their picture, then I became jealous as I just spent the last 45 minutes juggling the bills. So you know that I said to myself as I looked at their picture again on the front page of Yahoo? Money is the root of all evil.

Ann,
You missed my favorite "money" expression...."Money can't buy happiness". Although money won't buy happiness, it sure will help when it comes to paying for the things that would add to one's happiness. And when there's money, we're better-able to make ends meet, so long as we live within our means.
I think that's the problem. If someone has $100, $1000, or $10,000 monthly budget, so long as they stay within their means, money can definitely buy happiness. It's when $1000 is the budget but we spend $5000 a month...that's where the problems start.
Besides, there aren't a whole lot of broke people who are jumping for joy!
