thank you my friend

I am pretty sure that I will be the only person interested in what I have to say... I guess I am truly jealous of anyone that has their 15 minutes of fame (read: reality television shows), but I cannot be edited by big corporations to fit their story lines. I would say or sell their products, but maybe I can get a sponsor.

A Fine Rock Show

The rock show was fantastic. The guys did a great job and the crowd was way into it. It makes me look forward to the next show.

Today we'll hit the course. For me, it will likely be the last time this year. I am looking forward to it. Dan and I went golfing a few weeks ago and I hit an 89... now I should tell you that it was on 9 holes, not 18. I predicted last night that I would cut 2 strokes off today... I am being conservative. We're lucky, the weather should be nice today.

Say a few words for the Packers today. Good ones that is.

Pot of Coffee

Sing for the day. Sing for the moment. Sing for the coffee pot of your life. This is good stuff friends. There is nothing like a hot and fresh pot of coffee, especially when you know that outside it is very cold (not really that cold, the season is just upon us here in Wisconsin).

Plans for today... watch the Badger game, go to a 1st Birthday party, hang some plastic on the windows and head to Paul's Rock Show. We'll certainly post pictures of Dan in his COOL costume.

We're hoping for a round of golf on Sunday if the weather holds.

Back to the coffee pot. I am so cool that I even buy whole beans and grind them. How cool is that? I don't buy any fancy stuff. I buy Eight O'Clock Coffee, the red bag. No Folgers, no Postem, no sir.

Don't Forget the Lids!

You know those storage bins? They are the best thing ever... I bought four today. They have a tag on the shelf that says "Don't Forget the Lid." Not a lot of fun getting them off the shelf and in the cart, but hey, that's the price you pay. Also not fun after completing my shopping that one said bin had a cracked lid. So I go back, relieve myself of one bin and the offending lid. In the process of doing so, I place the remaining three lids on the shelf because the aisle is full of people who have convinced me that there only reason for existing at that moment is to impede my progres. Upon cramming these suckers into my car (wedged in by a mini-van and ridiculous truck)... drive home, get home, uncram all these suckers only to realize at 7:05pm that I had indeed forgotten the lids. Dan doesn't know it yet, but he is coming with me when he gets home to retrieve our lids. If you are reading this Dan... we are going and I will buy you Taco Bell.

Ramen Noodles

Even though I swore I would never eat them again, I still do. They are quick, filling and easy to make. You can tell who bought the last stock of ramen noodles here... they were all pork... down to one pack of chili flavor. I am glad that we have them in the house... thank you D Banjo.

Grateful for What I Have

It is easy to think of things that I would like. To have more "this" or more "that" or some "this" or some "that." I am finally beginnng to realize that I am the only one who can make more or some of anything possible, and only to a certain degree. The man upstairs really makes it all possible. But, all of the wishing and hoping doesn't make it happen. The wishing and hoping are part of what makes the "doing" happen. Without the wishing and hoping, the working wouldn't happen, but without the working, nothing happens. I don't need to work or try harder, I need to be more focused and see the bigger picture in all aspects of my life and how those pictures all make up the big picture.

My New Friend Violette

Tonight I got to spend time with my newest little friend Violette. I even got to watch her while her mom (my friend Rachael) went to get our Sesame Chicken. I did okay, but I am not a trained professional, so I didn't realize or want to realize that a diaper change was in order. Once the light bulb went on, I found myself fumbling for wipes and a new diaper... then from out of nowhere, Super Mom appeared and both Violette and I were saved! It was a great visit, it was nice to spend some time with Rachael and learn a little bit more about what's happening in her life. She's a good friend and very sensitive... about the needs and feelings of others too. Thank you my Friend.

Brett Hull Retires

Brett Hull has retired. Out of all of them, this one stings the most. Brett Hull is the player who got me interested in hockey. He is the reason that I wanted to learn about the game, its history. Now, unceremoniously, Brett Hull retires. No farewell road show. No fanfare.

Brett Hull is behind only Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe in goals scored. That says a lot, doesn't it? 741 goals, 650 assists, 1391 points, a 19 year career +/- rating of 23, 265 power play goals, 20 short-handed goals and 110 game winning goals.

I was fortunate enough to see Hull score a few goals live and in person. The first one was at the United Center, the Dallas Stars against the Chicago Blackhawks. I was sitting in the corner just to the left of the goal. A few minutes in, Hull just pulls it. In goes the puck. I can die a happy hockey fan. Even through it killed me to see Hull in anything but a St. Louis Blues jersey, he was and is my favorite player. There were times I wondered... but he is. Thank you, Mr. Hull.

A Walk to Clear My Head

I needed to think about nothing, so I went for a walk down to the lake tonight. I didn't think about anything. I am starting to get organized again, trying to keep my desk clean, use my day planner. I'd also like to lose a little weight, change my eating habits, get going a bit. I also want to start thinking more about other people, their feelings, things that I can do to make someone's day, to make them smile. Do more to keep my priorities in order.

It's Boss's Day People and Clergy Appreciation Month

That's right... say "thank you" to your boss. We all have one, even your boss has a boss. Just a card or a few kind words. Listen, I know that work can be tough... but you think about what you deal with and then what your boss deals with... you times 3 or 10 or 20 or whatever. They do a lot and they should get a little something too.

It's also Clergy Appreciation Month. Give them a shout out too. They support a lot of folks... and they have a hotline to the man upstairs!

100 mph for 12 months

That's how it feels. There isn't much time to slow down. I don't mind life moving fast, it just depends on which parts. I know that I have said before that I will sleep when I'm dead, but I feel like I have added a few years on.

Today is the anniversary of my Dad's death. I think I was 25, I really can't remember. I remember how the day went. I spoke with him in the afternoon and about 6 hours later I got the call. It was a terrible, horrible, awful day. My oldest brother and my sister-in-law were out of town for their anniversary. This weekend, their daughters are with us so that they can enjoy their anniversary together. I am so glad that they are here. They have grown so wonderfully.

We are going to have breakfast, head to church and then we are going for CARAMEL APPLES!

The Worst Part About a Weekend...

... is that it ends. Not looking forward to this one ending or the beginning of a new week. I like this weekend.

The Season has Begun

The NHL is back. Thank goodness. Blues lose... not good. Pronger in an Oilers uniform. But the Oilers are beating the Avalanche. Heatley gets the game winner in the season's first shoot out for the Ottawa Senators. He beat Eddie Belfour while Hasek tended goal for the Sens. So many changes. I will have to remember who has retired, who has been traded, who moved on because of free agency. Thank you for dropping the puck. Now I can wear my jerseys again, I can see the Zamboni smooth the ice, I can feel the chill in the arena. I can hear the Canadian national anthem. I can chant "Let's Go Blues." and wait for the Towel Man to count along with the chimes. Hope to make it to the Kiel (Savvis) Center this year. I would also be up for a great game at the United Center. Don't have the funds for a match at the Joe Louis Arena... Like Packer Tickets!

The NHL Season Will Begin

What more can I say? I have mixed emotions about it. Players on new teams... new rules, all of that. I am just glad there will be hockey on TV or else I would be really depressed. So, with the knowledge that the season will start, I have removed the "this many days since the NHL freeze out began" counter. Approximately 383 days later... more than a year has passed since we last saw the NHL. The question is, if a puck drops and there isn't anyone there who cares... well then, who cares? I do, my friend. I do.

Violette

I am happy to report that Violette, Rachael and Dennis are hope. I spoke with Rachael for the first time today since last Sunday morning. I have been very antsy and I was so excited to talk with Rachael! I have plans to go meet my newest friend on Monday evening. I can't wait to meet Violette, I have been waiting a long time... ever since I learned she was going to show up! I have seen pictures and she looks just beautiful, she takes after her Mom that way.
